Transportation noise in Western Australia generally falls under guideline
documents such as the draft Western Australian Planning Commission’s
(WAPC) - Statement of Planning Policy: Road and Rail Transport Noise, or Main
Roads Western Australia - Noise Level Objectives. Lloyd George Acoustics can
measure and assess against these criteria, predict noise using computer
modelling and provide recommendations on noise control.

Measurements are undertaken using state-of-the-art equipment including
precision integrating sound level meters capable of providing spectral analysis
and noise data loggers for long term monitoring.

Noise modelling uses the computer programme SoundPLAN that incorporates
terrain information, barriers, buildings, source sound power levels and
meteorological effects – refer to the figure below for a typical output noise level
contour plot.

Transportation noise is generally an issue on two sides. One being for the proponent of the road or rail, whether this be an upgrade or new and the other being for a residential development that adjoins a transportation corridor.
